Map Of The Battles For The Liberation Of Judea From The Seleucids

The Seleucid army was based in Jerusalem, and even though the battles took place some distance from the city, Jerusalem remained the focal point of the campaign. The map shows the Hasmoneans' attempts to prevent the foreign forces reaching Jerusalem to join up with the Seleucids under siege in the Acra. The battles took place on the main routes leading to the city, and the Hasmonean strategy was to defend these routes. The map illustrates the vital role Jerusalem filled during the Second Temple period in general, and especially at the end of the Hasmonean era.
