The Conflict Of Ehud
The conflict of Ehud, 12th to 11th, Centuries B.C.
In the tribe of Benjamin, a hero named Ehud son of Gera delivered his people from Transjordanian aggression (Judg 3:12–30). The various geographical allusions in the passage (see Judg 3:12–15), e.g. Gilgal and the hill country of Ephraim, strongly suggest that the City of Palms is, in fact, Jericho (e.g. see Deut 34:3; 2 Chr 28:15). A misunderstanding of Deuteronomy 34:3 evidently led to the talmudic application of the term “City of Palms,” to Zoar (m. Yebam. 16:7).
